What Approaches Do You Use?
The approach we use depends on the concerns of focus and your preferences.

Feel free to bring these up for discussion.
About Me
Landon Henkelman, MC
Registered Psychologist (Alberta)
I completed graduate training in Counselling Psychology at the University of Calgary in 2015. After this I completed over 1600 hours of supervised practice and licensure examinations to register with the College of Alberta Psychologists in 2020.
I have substantial experience working with people experiencing a variety of concerns. Some of my focus has been on PTSD and trauma treatment, anger problems, mood problems, fathering concerns, and addictions.
I have additional experience working with police and Veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces.
I believe in outcomes informed practice - I monitor and consult to improve outcomes with my clients. I regularly participate in trainings and supervision with other therapists to improve my service.
Fees
Costs
Standard fees are lower than the fee guidelines set by the Psychologists Association of Alberta:
- $200 CAD per hour
- $300 CAD per 1.5 hours
- Letters and reports are billed at the hourly rate in 10 min increments
- Consultations at your request are billed at the hourly rate in 10 min increments
Do you provide direct billing?
I will provide you a receipt to submit to your insurance provider.
How can I pay?
You can pay with credit card (via stripe) or e-transfer.
When are fees due?
Fees are due at the end of the session you attended.
Are you available for emergency calls?
I cannot respond to mental health emergencies or crises because I am usually scheduled with client appointments throughout the week. It may take be two business days to respond.
How many sessions will I need?
You decide when you want to access e-therapy - this might mean a single session, or a series of sessions to focus on a chronic concern. You may also request occasional sessions to maintain improvements.
There is limited evidence that working with the same therapist, using the same approaches for years continues to be significantly helpful. I generally do not believe in working with clients over a period of years.
Former clients may reach out with a new concern. I encourage you to access a variety of supports and perspectives you view to be helpful to improve your concerns.

Is counselling confidential?
Yes - but there are limits to this.
I will keep what you tell me confidential unless:
- I am concerned about somebody's safety,
- if a child or other vulnerable person is at risk or has been harmed,
- if your record is subpoenaed by a judge,
- or if other legislation requires information be released.
Do you see couples?
No - I am not currently doing therapy with couples.
How long does each therapy session take?
One hour sessions are generally 50-60 minutes.
I also offer 90 minute sessions.
Can I end counselling at any time?
Yes - all services are voluntary. This means you can end services whenever you like, or ask me for referrals to alterative programs that might be a fit for you.
Do you offer in-person sessions?
No - I only provide sessions via secure video platform.
This may be important to decide if this service is appropriate for you.
If you prefer to meet with someone in person, I can offer you resources for this.
What Video Platform Do You Use?
I use the owl video platform. Owl was designed for use by mental health clinicians in Canada. We may also use doxy.me for video sessions. These programs use end to end encryption to ensure counselling sessions are confidential.
Do you provide psychological assessments?
I am not currently providing written psychological assessments, or court ordered assessments.
Do I have to complete any testing for my counselling?
I may offer that we use certain tools to clarify symptoms and monitor the impact of counselling. You can decline this free testing and we can collaborate on an approach to monitoring the impact of counselling.
